Fundraising total -

£117,500!!

We are delighted to say that we have exceeded our target and have £117,500 to share between both charities.

Thank you to everyone who has so generously supported us!

Following on from the great success of TrekChina0907 and the Gala dinner last December, we can now confirm that the profits raised are a staggering £117,500!

So far the money that has been spent has made a huge difference to Newick House School and they have been able to buy a great list of new equipment, including a minibus (pictured below), 8 interactive whiteboards, sensory room equipment, a play lodge and a range of IT equipment.  The funds have also helped towards a local WebPlay 'Secret Agent' project.  Funds for The National Autistic Society have gone towards telephone help line and support services for parents.

The TrekChina0907 team conquered the Great Wall and much more!  Our 31 intrepid trekkers hiked, scrambled, rambled, trudged and for the last few moments skipped their way across the Great Wall all in the effort of raising money for Newick House School and The National Autistic Society.

The journey was one of many incredible sights and challenges that saw all the trekkers really come together as a team to support and encourage each other and this bond has continued strong since returning home.  To read all about the trekkers' experiences have a look at our blog.

TrekChina Gala Dinner

A gala dinner was held just before Christmas at the Hilton Metropole

Hotel to celebrate what had been achieved and former Olympic Gold Medalist Sally Gunnell, who had supported the trek from the beginning, presented the cheques to Anna Patterson from The National Autistic Society and Gill Perry, Headteacher at Newick House School.
You can read more about how this equipment has made a real difference to life at Newick House School on the blogWe will continue to keep the blog updated with news of how raised funds are helping.

We are very happy to say that we met and surpassed the aims we set ourselves:

  • We raised awareness of the challenges faced by children with autism through this website, our fundraising and the trek itself.
  • We raised a significant amount of funds for both Newick House School, West Sussex (a UK school for children with special needs) and The National Autistic Society.
  • We most definitely built new and wonderful friendships with others on the trek as well as in China.  Some of our trekkers also went to visit the Fortune Training School (XinYun School) in Beijing with which we hope to be able to maintain links in the future.

Once more we'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who has been involved in this trek, the sponsors, the families, the children of Newick House School and we hope to see you all again in the near future!
